largo de são paulo · apartment rehabilitation

The study and rehabilitation of this Pombaline building in Praça de S. Paulo and two houses on the 4th floor in an advanced state of degradation were the confirmation that the existing heritage should be recovered with the maximum respect for the original construction methods. It was necessary to improve the salubrity and comfort conditions of the dwellings. The original carpentry was restored and maintained, with some elements fully replaced and some wooden beams reinforced with metal profiles. The typology had the sanitary installation outside on the terrace and three indoor areas available. The kitchen was recovered and in place of an interior compartment two sanitary installations were built, freeing the terrace.
